Is a heat pump cheaper to run than a gas furnace in Ohio?
Not usually, if natural gas is what it would be replacing. Against propane, fuel oil or electric heat, though, a heat pump often costs less to run.

Why does the air from my heat pump feel cooler than a furnace?
A gas furnace blows air well over 100 degrees, while a heat pump’s is often closer to 90, so it runs longer to heat the room. Air that warm can still feel cool on your hand, since it’s close to your skin’s own temperature.
None of that means something’s wrong. If the house won’t get up to the temperature you set, though, give us a call.
Is a heat pump worth it when my old AC needs replacing?
It’s often worth a look. A heat pump cools like a central AC in summer, and it heats your home through much of the winter too.

Can a heat pump handle Northeast Ohio winters?
Yes, on most winter days. Air at 30 degrees still has heat in it, and the heat pump pulls that heat out and brings it indoors. On a 45-degree day, and usually down to about freezing, a heat pump sized for your house keeps up on its own. A well-insulated house with few drafts holds that heat longer.
On a much colder night, it runs longer and may not keep up. Older models usually struggle sooner than newer cold-climate models built for low temperatures. That’s why most heat pumps here have a backup for the coldest days, often a gas furnace that takes over in a setup called dual fuel. Electric heat strips are the other option, and they cost a lot more to run.
